Pocket filters also called bag filters or pocket bag filters, are mainly used in HVAC systems for paint booths, hospitals, industrial buildings, clean rooms, food & beverage plants, electronic industry, gas turbine intake facilities, and other industrial areas. They are secondary filters after prefilters and efficiency can be from G4-F9 according to EN779:2012 or from Merv 8-Merv 15 according to ASHRAE Standard. New standard ISO16890 also classify bag filter as ISO coarse ,ISO coarse ＞95%, ePM10,ePM2.5,ePM1

The pocket filter is a type of air filter made from several pieces of ultrasonic welded synthetic pockets. There are different efficiency ranges such as 45%, 65%,85%, 95%,98%. Different efficiency comes with different colors. Usually, 45% of pocket filters are in white color or beige color, 65% of pocket filters are in green or orange color, 85% of pocket filters are in pink color, 95% of pocket filters are in yellow color, 98% pocket filters are in white color.
There are varying numbers of pockets that can be used in a bag air filter, and these can vary in length and width. A pocket filter with a standard size of 24x24x22 deep – 8 pockets has around 60 square feet of filtration media. However, a larger 24x24x36x8 multi-pocket air filter has a surface filtration area of over 100 square feet. Usually the pocket filters can last 6-12 months depending on the maintenance of the pre-filters and the air quality in the HVAC systems.
Pocket filters are designed to keep the air flow and the air volume constant through the pockets of the filter. When the air volume starts to decrease or stops altogether, the pockets will tend to collapse and split. This can cause damage of the filter.
Poocket air filters are ideal for certain applications where the air systems run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But it is not good choice to work in changeable air volume systems or when the air system stops working. In these types of facilities, it’s not feasible to continuously shut down the air volumes over a certain period of time.
